HarperCollins and the BFI are delighted to announce their first collaboration – a free Virtual Science Fiction Festival on 15th & 16th November called #BFIVoyager.
The festival takes place as part of the BFI’s major three month celebration of Science Fiction, Days of Fear and Wonder presented together with O2, which takes place at BFI Southbank and venues across the UK until December. The BFI’s Science Fiction blockbuster season is full of the finest Science Fiction films and television, including Brazil, A Clockwork Orange, Barbarella, the cinema rerelease of Kubrick’s masterful 2001: A Space Odyssey and a programme of talks, lectures and discussion with eminent film and TV directors, actors and screenwriters.
The aim of the BFIVoyager Science Fiction festival is to explore the link between Science Fiction literature and film. HarperCollins imprint HarperVoyager has been leading the way publishing the finest Science Fiction books for the last twenty five years. Including authors such as Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, William Gibson and Arthur C. Clarke.
The festival’s program of events will take place Twitter, Facebook, Google + and other platforms. It will be an open and inclusive event, so if you want to get involved, email your ideas to BFIVoyager@harpercollins.co.uk by 07/11/2014.
The program will reflect the 3 main themes of the BFI’s film season:
Tomorrow’s World – from post-apocalyptic wastelands to megacities to far-flung dystopia – best described by Ray Bradbury as ‘sociological studies of the future’.
Altered States – the science fiction of ‘inner space’ mad scientists, mutants, man-machines and mind-bending trips – what points us towards the fragile and untrustworthy thing that is consciousness.
Contact! – time to explore life from all corners of the universe and across multiple dimensions.
We will focus on story-telling and the impact of literature on film. Anticipate some friendly rivalry between book versus film.
The festival will be free to ‘attend’, simply requiring you to register here. You will also be sent 2 free HarperVoyager ebooks at the end of the festival
