12 Days of Dragons: Rhaegal

In celebration of the release of George R.R. Martin’s The Ice Dragon out today, we are looking at some of the most fearsome and fantastic dragons in fantasy. Our second dragon also comes from Westeros: Rhaegal.

Rhaegal was born from the flames that consumed Daenerys Targaryen’s husband, Khal Drogo. He, along with his two brothers, Drogon and Viserion, are the first dragons to be seen in Westeros for hundreds of years.

His scales are a dark green, the green of moss in the deep woods at dusk, just before the light fades, and they gleam like jade. His teeth and claws are black. His eyes are bronze, brighter than polished shields, and they glow with their own heat. His flame is orange-and-yellow fire shot through with veins of green. [Source]
